And check out the cover: Greg Konar, our research technician, received an honorable mention award from the NSF for his Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) project proposal on exosomes and fusion events in retinal stem cell transplants. He was among the top 20% of applicants from over 12,000 doctoral and pre-doctoral students who applied.
Research paper by authors Ying V. Liu, Simrat Sodhi, Gilbert Xue, Derek Teng, Dzhalal Agakishiev, Minda M. McNally, Sarah Harris-Bookman, Caitlin McBride, Gregory Konar, and Mandeep S. Singh was accepted in March 2020 by ARVO's Translational Vision Science and Technology journal (TVST).
In this paper we use a combination of commonly used ocular imaging methods to evaluate stem cell graft survival in mouse models of retinal degeneration. Our analysis method successfully tracked different important facets of graft transplantation across multiple months of observation and directly correlated with histological outcomes, proving its utility for stem cell transplant studies. A Juliette RP Vision Foundation Research Grant was awarded to Dr. Ying Liu on June 25th! On the 9th of August she attended the foundation's Night for Sight dinner gala and awards ceremony to speak about her research. Congrats Ying!
This last May at ARVO, Mandeep Singh was awarded the Bert M. Glaser MD Award for Innovative Research in Retina.
